| 1. What is God? |
|
God is all things seen and unseen, the intelligence behind all things. Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient (nowhere absent, nowhere powerless, nowhere unconscious, but everywhere present, everywhere powerful). There is a universal primal energy pervading the entire universe and filling infinite space; we call that energy God. The intelligence, energy, power that we call God pervades all things seen and unseen, so there is nothing but God. To realize that God is the only power, substance, and intelligence may be confusing at first. But when man realizes the true nature of God and brings this power forth into active expression, he will use the power at all times. He will know that he consciously contacts the power at all times-when he eats, when he runs, when he breathes, or when he does the great work before him. Man has not yet learned to do the greater works of God because he has not realized the greatness of God's power and has not known that God's power is available for man's use. |
| 2. What is Spirit? |
| Spirit is another word for God. It is the primary, vibrating, originating power. You may enter into Spirit and use its power simply by knowing and accepting that it exists. Once this happens, you can let it come forth, and the whole of Spirit is at your command. It becomes an ever-potent spring of perpetual and original life within yourself.
All is Spirit before it becomes physical. This is not a material universe, as you may have thought. That is only your definition of it. The universe came forth from Spirit and it is spiritual, if you will define it as such. Spirit is the supreme essence of man's being. It is never diseased and never unhappy. Flesh does not need to be spiritualized; it is already Spirit in manifestation, just as water is the combination of oxygen and hydrogen in manifest form. To the Master there is no material universe. The visible universe is the manifestation of Spirit and is, therefore, spiritual in essence and governed by the law of Spirit. It is this knowledge that gives the Master power-therein is the secret of all individual power. To know the law of Spirit and to live in harmony with the law is power of unlimited degree. The law of the Spirit is the law of Love. It is love that governs infinite space and all forms that are projected in space. That is why the Scriptures say that if you are in love, you are in God and God is in you. Love is harmony and it keeps all things in harmony, not only with itself but with each other. When man is in the consciousness of love or a consciousness of perfect unity with all things, he is in a state of perfect harmony with all things and with all people. Love is cohesion, a binding force that keeps all things in relationship to their source. Working in harmony with their source, all things work in harmony with all projections of that same source. But love will dissolve that which is not in harmony with the Universal order, for it demands complete adherence to the principle of its own nature, which is Spirit. For that reason, love destroys hate, greed, selfishness, self-seeking, and the ego that comes from those states of consciousness. |
| 3. What is the Lord? |
|
Lord means law, Lord God meaning law of God. There is but one lord (law) for all established mind action. If you use this law (lord) correctly, you will be abundant, healthy, peaceful, and joyful. You will experience what others call miracles. If you use this law (lord) incorrectly, life will be hard. For example, if you use the laws of nature incorrectly by planting corn at the wrong time of year, it will not grow, you will have wasted your money and hard work, and you will experience disappointment. If you use the law correctly and plant the corn during the right season, it will flourish. You are not being bad by violating the laws of nature, perhaps out of ignorance of the correct season to plant. There is no punishment for violating the lord (law) of God, other than the punishment that you bring upon yourself. |
| 4. Who is Christ? |
|
Christ means the power within man to know God. The Christ (knowing) must be born within each of us. You bring forth Christ (knowing) within yourself by turning your attention to and concentrating on that very thing. |
| 5. What is the Soul? |
| Soul means consciousness. The great work for each soul is to lift the personal viewpoint to such heights of consciousness that it becomes one with the whole. All can meet with one accord in one place-that place in consciousness where it is understood that all things visible and invisible have their origin in the one God. |
| 6. Where is Heaven? |
|
Heaven is a perfect state of consciousness here and now on earth. Heaven is not "out there" somewhere. Man can live in heaven (perfect state of consciousness) by adhering to the laws of spirit. To make this manifest, realize that there is nothing material in heaven; all is spiritual. Realize that heaven is a perfect state of consciousness, a perfect world here on earth now. All we need to do is to accept it. It is here all about us, waiting for us to open the inner eye. |
| 7. What is the Devil and where is Hell? |
| The devil Satan and its home hell do not exist. These are names given to our own doubts and limitations. When Jesus said, "Get thee behind me, Satan," he was declaring that he was removing doubt and limitation from his consciousness. The only power the devil (doubt and limitation) has is the power that man gives it in thought. The term hell is used as the exact opposite of heaven. But this is also false. Neither heaven nor hell are places "out there" where one goes after death; both are states of consciousness chosen by each person here and now, in the present.

| 8. What is Man? |
| Man alone commits what he himself calls sin, and man alone has the power to forgive that sin. He does not need instructions from a Master, nor does he need to learn from a book what is true to the processes of the Universal life within him. He knows when he violates the law of life just as easily as he knows when the principles of music have been violated. We know discord in music, whether or not we have "studied" music. When we "hear discord" in our lives, we should understand that we are violating the law of our being, which leads to inharmonious results in our lives. All discordant emotional and mental states are sins against man's true nature. Everything that produces a harmonious effect in man's nature-that which gives him a sense of peace, freedom, power, and harmony-is in direct harmony with life, and only harmonious results prevail. Man is like a test tube in a chemical laboratory. If we add harmonious solutions, we get harmonious results. Otherwise, we set up an inharmonious condition wherein we get either inharmonious results or no results at all. It is the same in our bodies. We never set up disharmony if we induce or give out only harmonious thoughts and feelings. It is absolutely impossible for us to set up disharmony if we give out harmony, because we surround ourselves with an influence that is completely harmonious. All is controlled through consciousness, and we become perfectly conscious of harmony, far more so than we can become conscious of disharmony, because harmony is man's true nature. |
| 9. What is Death? |
| There really is no such thing as death. Man is Spirit. Sprit always was and always will be. Within every seven-year period, every cell in our body is replaced. We have a completely new body, but we have never ceased to exist in that time. All the desires of your childhood have been replaced by new desires, yet you still exist. What man calls death is merely the slowing down of the vibrations of the body. If you step through the vale of death for a moment, you can see that it is not forbidden ground, as you have been taught; it is only what your thoughts have made it. There is life there-the same life that is here. |
| 10. Osiris, Buddha, Jesus |
|
Teachings of Osiris, Buddha, and Jesus reveal many similarities; in fact, sometimes the same words are used. The teachings showed the Masters the way from the outer to the inner. But they did not stop there. Had the Masters just studied what they were taught and copied what they saw, we would not recognize them as Masters, and we would not have recorded their lives and teachings. They all went through the same experience in that their followers wanted to crown them kings of temporal kingdoms; but to this they did not listen, each expressing the same thought in almost the same words: "My kingdom is not of the material, it is spiritual." |
| 11. What is the purpose of the Ten Commanments? |
| The Ten Commandments are not the objectified law of God. Instead, they are the attempt by Moses to lay down a law for mental and moral conduct. But there is no such conduct outside the law of the Spirit; the consciousness of the activity of Spirit must be recognized as the only governing law. The original intent of these commandments was to say, "As you stand one with Law, you will not" do these things; unfortunately, this has been translated, "Thou shalt not." If you are in tune with the law of harmony, you will not produce discord. But merely to refrain from producing discord does not place you in tune with the law of harmony. To refrain from discord merely involves doing nothing at all, which results in nothing, certainly not harmony. The active doing of the law produces effects commensurate with the law. Life is active, dynamic, not static. It is doing truth, not merely refraining from that which is not truth. |
| 12. What is the Ladder of Consciousness? |
| The ladder of consciousness was revealed to Jacob in a vision. He saw the angels of God descending and ascending the ladder-God's ideas descending from Spirit to form and ascending again. The ladder is the challenge to each of us-to climb in order to enter that silent secret place of the Most High and find that we are in the very center of every created thing, one with all things visible and invisible, in and of the Omnipresence. The same revelation came to Jesus when the "heavens were opened unto him" and he saw the wonderful law of expression whereby ideas conceived in the Divine Mind come forth into expression and manifest as form. So perfectly was this law of expression revealed to the Master that at once he saw that all form may be transformed through a change of consciousness regarding it. Jesus was challenged to change the form of stones to the form of bread to satisfy personal hunger. But with the revelation of this law of expression came the true understanding that stones, as well as all other visible forms, come from the Universal Mind Substance-God-and are in themselves true expressions of Divine Mind. All things desired (not formed) are still in this Universal Mind Substance ready to be created or brought forth to fill every desire. Thus, the need for bread showed only that the substance with which to create bread or any other needed thing is at hand without limitation. Bread can be created from this substance, just as well as stones can be created therefrom. Every good desire that man has is God's desire; therefore, there is an unlimited supply of the Universal God Substance all about us to fill every desire. All we need do is to learn to use what God has already created for us. He wills us to do this that we may be free from every limitation and be "abundantly free." |
